释义 践形儒家用语。指以形貌体现人之本性。《孟子·尽心上》:“形色,天性也;惟圣人然后可以践形。”认为人之体态容貌(形色)亦为天赋之性,也体现人性之善,然只有圣人才能做到。朱熹《四书章句集注》:“惟圣人有是形,而又能尽其理,然后可以践其形而无歉也。”将“尽理”列为“践形”之重要内容。
践形“践”指履;“形”指形色。践形指人性体现于形色。《孟子·尽心上》:“形色,天性也;惟圣人然后可以践形。”清焦循注:“形色即是天性……惟其为人之形、人之色,所以为人之性。圣人尽人之性,正所以践人之形。”(《孟子正义》)认为“形色”(泛指人的身体、感觉、欲望等)原是“人性善”的外部表现,但只有圣人才能通过“形色”把这一固有本性体现出来(“践”)。南宋朱熹认为“性即理”,说:“惟圣人有是形,而又能尽其理,然后可以践其形而无歉也。”(《孟子集注》)明清之际王夫之重践形,以践形论证理欲统一:“形之所成斯有性,情之所显惟其形。故曰:形色天性也,惟圣人然后可以践形。”(《周易外传》卷一)并以“践形”为人生准则:“人之体惟性,人之用惟才。……形者性之凝,色者才之撰也。故曰汤武身之也。谓即身而道在也。……性焉安焉者,践其形而已矣。”(《尚书引义》四)清戴震亦讲践形,把“践形”看作是人的形质利用不失于“人之道”者。“人之形,官器利用大远于物,然而于人之道不能无失,是不践此形也,犹言之而行不逮,是不践此言也。”(《孟子字义疏证·才》)与王夫之的观点颇相近。
